We need to stop taking these teams of people who, especially at the start, have taken a risk to do something different and then, because they've been successful, start to enforce old business norms on them.Īsk why these teams appeared? It's because the old business norms weren't allowing for that creativity and problem solving. Given I've been driving and actually delivering change for a number of years now (as opposed to just talking about it!), I think I'm well place to say that we need to stop trying to kill innovation and creativity. It's about not always conforming with the expected way of working. Innovation is about challenging the norms, it's about questioning why we've been doing something the same way for so long, it's about pushing people to think differently. Something has been bothering me for a little while and the opening line to this post summed it up - 'when did innovation become so rigid?'
